Pebble & Rock Sculpture

Pebble & Rock Sculpture

Welcome to my collection of pebble art and rock sculpture by Fred Ferguson. I collect rocks, driftwood and whatever washes up on the beautiful shores of Lake Erie in southern Ontario. The rocks and pebbles are hand collected along the shores and rivers, and are a variety of tumbled granite, sandstone and quartz. Each stone is unique in colour, shape and texture.

I create a broad range of abstract sculptures of which many are on display here and available only at select art galleries.

I have an on-going collection of Faerie Towers which are natural landscapes with dramatic zen-like spires atop mushrooms, all made with hand collected beach stones. The Faeries in your life will thank you for this.

I also create pebble art on handmade crate frames and then apply the stones, wood or shells in uniquely one-of-a-kind designs. The finished product has a low lustre but very rich finish. The frames are typically 6.75″ by 12″ in size.

Granite slabs measuring 6″ by 9″ are also used to create a floral display with and attached tabletop stand.

My creations have proven to be popular at art and craft venues around Southern Ontario. I’m sure you will enjoy them as much as I do making them. I am always available for any questions you may have.

Fred Ferguson, Sculptor – Bio

For over 35 years I was self-employed in custom garden woodwork and landscape design and construction.

My specialty was unique garden structures including obelisks, trompe l’oeil, trelliswork and curved laminations. From these endeavors I developed my sense of scale and balance with great attention to detail.

Over the course of my career I was involved in the construction of many full size rock formations and waterfalls. This enabled an instinctive transition to my artistic endeavours in rock sculpture. The use of these natural materials in my creations addresses the resolution of Mother Earth’s struggle with balance and chaos.

My ultimate goal is to present natural stone arrangements that push the realm of possibility while maintaining the pleasure derived from resolving tension into harmony.
